commissioner maufas? commissioner maufas: thank you. just, in reading the resolution before us, i will make two statements. really, in the last, i think it is -- on page 7, the board has determined that it has a specific need to deviate from seniority and skip the certification employees in the superintendent's as though, that was a vote, and i did not determine that, so i want to make it clear. i was not a part of that decision. i said no to that, and unfortunately, what is tied into this resolution and not separated out is the administrative law judge's decision, but also layoffs, and i support the administrative law judge's decision but did not support the layoffs, so i will be voting no on this in its entirety, and i wanted to explain this in its entirety for those folks in the audience and those listening at home. president yee: any other comments? i would like to amend what has been proposed, the language of this, and i believe that we may have something in order for an amended version. general counsel? general counsel: i am langu

commissioner maufas: i will be brief. i have a question, you had mentioned in your comments that you had noted, besides one of the two issues, that the class sizes were large. did you have a number or a close figure? >> i can only give an estimate. i can run the numbers. this year we established a separate course #4 pe -- number for pe. in one case, i know there was a particular teacher, there was around a hundred students that teacher was supervising. for pe independent study. commissioner maufas: thank you. that is also what is part of this amendment. i will tell the authors, i get to that we have the requested action, which puts in bullet points what we are doing. but even trying to find it in the resolution, i am here next to the parliamentarian and she is still looking. this is problematic. i'm just telling the authors. if you have to clarify this year, i do not mind the background. everybody needs it. but if i cannot match what you are saying in these bullet points, with the resolution, it does not match up for me.

commissioner maufas: again, february is black history month. i want to thank all the schools that have invited many of the commissioners to their school events in. this is a reminder that friday, february 24, is the great african american read-in. so many people have volunteered. many school sites have requested readers. anymore volunteer readers. we need you to go to the website, www.sfedfund.org, and signed up. blogging you into a school site, we fill the school site and move on to the next one with vacancies. that is an imperative step that people are forgetting. they think, i am with the school districts all i can go to a school site. but the ed fund is coordinating the sites that still have vacancies. it is imperative that if you want to do it, it is from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 on a friday morning. if you go to the website and say that you're coming so they can contact you or you can plug into a training, which is just 30 minutes, which we need to do it. it would make a world of difference for facilitating the process and make this happen. i w
